nothing-relevant-happens-here: Incredible, albeit slightly overlong film chronicling the journey of Uxbal, a conflicted man who struggles to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and mortality amidst the dangerous underworld of modern Barcelona. “Biutiful” is devastating, tremendously depressing and very, very well executed. Inarritu is at times prone to overwrought poetic meanderings, but it does little to hamper the watchability. If anything, watch this movie for Javier Bardiem’s superlative performance and the cinematography, which is absolutely fucking gorgeous. Watched this the other day with Jordan… Every single scene and moment in this movie was super depressing. Even the parts that were seemingly happy were just hella bittersweet :( but regardless, it was a pretty amazing movie so you should wats.
